Suboxone vs. Methadone - Treatment for the Addict

By Deb Bloom of Gimme One of Each

We are fighting a war every day. In our towns, our schools and our homes. Drug addiction is a lifelong fight and there are more people out there that want to bring you down than raise you up.

There are treatments out there for addicts. Methadone clinics are popping up everywhere and if you're an addict, you're going to be approached about this program at some point. The problem is, Methadone is just as addictive, if not more so, than the drugs you're trying to stop abusing. Another program is the Suboxone program. Suboxone is similar to methadone, but doesn't tend to be as addictive and is easier to stop over a shorter amount of time. Compare the 2 drug advantages and disadvantages HERE

Whether a person is taking Suboxone or Methadone, the body will still be physically dependent on opioids as long as this treatment is continued, but it can make all the difference in the world to the addict who wants to stop using the addictive and illegal drug that is keeping them from living a normal life.

Neither drug will work wonders by itself. Recovery is a process that requires constant effort from the addict and hopefully support from those around him. Persistence, education about treatment, the desire to be drug-free, good drug counseling, support group meetings and a positive attitude in addition to a methadone or suboxone program can help the addict find a life worth living.

The desire to be drug-free needs to be instilled in our children, as we hopefully instill responsibility. Our society isn't making the consequences vivid enough.
Great intel.
