Small Town Attractions - Seldom Seen Mine

Intel #3 -Small Town Attractions - The Seldom Seen Mine is located in Patton, Pennsylvania. The mine was once owned privately, but the mine operations are now split between tourism and mining operations. You can see a relatively intact and complete site of the process of mining and shipping coal and there are original structures and a variety of equipment on the underground tour. The tour guides are actual coal miners with a wealth of knowledge and experience and you can really gain a sense of what it must have been like working in those small, dark mine tunnels. If you have even the slightest bit of claustrophobia, this tour is probably not for you. There are some very tight quarters during the tour. The visitor Center opens at 11am with the first tour entering the Mine at Noon. The last tour enters the Mine at 5pm. You can your the mine any Saturday or Sunday in June,
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in July & August and there are scheduled tours for groups of 25 or more in May, Sept. & Oct, scheduled mostly for school field trips. Come on out and enjoy the tour. Get a little of what this region is all about! |
