Small Town Attractions - Not So Bad After All!

If you live in a small town, chances are you're bored. Bored stiff because there's nothing to do and it's at least 30-40 miles to even get to the closest mall! Well, I feel your pain. So I thought I would focus on what there IS to do in small towns, at least close by and mostly in small towns in Clearfield, PA and surrounding Counties. If you have a town or attraction you want me to find out about, please feel free to email me or post on my intel. Just a little about Clearfield County first, since that's where I'll be starting with this series of intels. The name Clearfield is believed to have been taken from the cleared fields, which the settlers found in the area. Clearfield County was formed on March 26, 1804 and was then known as Chincleclamousche Township. Many subdivision followed with the last one organizing in 1895. Clearfield was chosen as the county seat on May 20, 1805 and the Courthouse was built in 1814, where it still stands, although there has been an annex built on in the back of the original building.
The first settler dates from about 1783 and most of the land within the County was surveyed and divided into large tracts of from 250 to 1,000 acres, of which a large part was given to the soldiers of the Pennsylvania Line for their services in the Revolutionary War. Other large pieces of land were owned by investors from England and the larger cities in the East. There is many things to do in Clearfield County and I will be touching on these over the next few months, adding intels about Clearfield and surrounding counties. Please check back for more!
