Natural Diuretics

By Deb Bloom of Gimme One of Each

While we all try to lose weight and stay in shape, there are many things that can hinder the effort. Certain drinks like soda and foods like salt and sugar cause the body to retain fluids. You may end up bloated and uncomfortable or it may be noticeable in your hands, feet and ankles.

Your doctor can prescribe diuretics for people who suffer from chronic fluid retention. If you have Hypertension or other heart diseases may be prescribed diuretics to keep the excess fluid from accumulating and thus making the heart work harder. Sometimes women suffer with bloating when they are having their periods. People also take diuretics as an aid to lose weight. Always contact your doctor before taking over the counter diuretics or even before you use an old prescription you have left over because using diuretics can lead to problems such as dehydration and loss of potassium.

Natural Diuretic

We can all use natural diuretics, found in foods and certain drinks, which more and more people are resorting to lately. Many of these natural foods exhibit effective decreases in fluid and are much safer than pills. Moderation is the key even when using natural diuretics. Natural diuretics help remove excess fluids from the body along with other benefits such as treatment of sciatica, kidney stones, PMS and high blood pressure.

Here are some natural diuretic drinks that you can try:

Green tea is a natural diuretic food that has been in use for centuries in China.
Cranberry juice can aid in removal of excess fluid retention and helps prevent Urinary Tract Infections.
Apple cider vinegar is a natural diuretic and also helps maintain potassium levels. Add it to your salad dressing.
Fennel is a natural diuretic and you can use this to season your food.

How about trying these Diuretic foods:

Natural foods with high water content such as watermelons and cucumbers help increase urination, resulting in better flushing out of toxins from the bladder. Watercress and artichokes are also natural diuretic foods.
Asparagus boosts kidney performance, therefore improving waste removal from the body.
Brussel Spouts help in stimulating the kidneys and pancreas and helps in better cleansing of cells.
Oats contain silica, which is a natural diuretic.
Lettuce improves metabolism and flushing of toxins.
Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin C which helps the metabolism and release of water from the kidney.
Garlic is a natural diuretic food that aids breakage of fat.

So why not try some of these foods and drinks. You can enjoy your meals and snacks and ultimately remove excess fluid from your body.
