How to Clean Your House in 20 Minutes
By Deb Bloom
If you work all day, I guarantee you're busy in the evenings and the house is the one thing that lacks your TLC, right? Well, here are some tips for a quick once over on your house that should only take you 20-30 minutes or less and if you have help, you can cut the time in half. This is a quick run through for week nights, your heavier cleaning can wait until the weekend if you want. Get your kids, or your spouse, to help and make a game out of it. Everyone likes a challenge, right? Set a simple kitchen timer or even the timer on the stove. Give each person a couple jobs or a certain room and tell they they have to get those few tasks or their assigned room done before the timer goes off. Make fun names for the tasks or rooms they are assigned. Set if for 20 minutes. Foyer Fighter Straighten the foyer. This is the first place anyone is going to see when they walk in your house. Move newspapers, school books, shoes and coats into their appropriate places. Clutter Catcher Go through each room and quickly pick up all visible clutter. Don't just throw it in the closet out of site, actually put it where it belongs. Bedroom Blaster Take bedspread, sheet and all, fluff it, cover your pillows, throw on the accent pillows, straighten it a little. Pick up clothes and throw them all in the laundry room or hamper. Deal with laundry later. Dishwasher Duo Get a partner, each on one side of the open dishwasher door, set the timer on the stove for 2 minutes and unload the dishwasher. See if you can do it in 10 minutes. Pet Feeder Quickly fill food and water dishes. I'm sure by now the pets are laying quietly watching all of you run around the house like nuts! Kitchen Cowboy Put stray items in one pile in a designated area of the kitchen or on a desk and take time to go through it later. Fill dishwasher. Wipe off counter tops, put stray cereal boxes into cabinet. Living Room Lover Usually this is the room that is the least messy. Fluff pillows on sofa and chairs, quick vacuum in just the high traffic areas, wipe TV and coffee table off. Bathroom Basher This is of course the most used room in the house and probably the messiest. Wipe the sinks off quickly, pick up towels or wayward clothes, stash them in the hamper or laundry room. Lay out fresh towels. Straighten magazines or books. Laundry Lasher Fill washer, throw wet clothes into dryer, deal with the folding later. There seems to be a lot of tasks here, but if there are a few of you in the house, you can actually go through your house in about 20-30 minutes as long as everyone participates and seriously helps. You can cut the mess and clutter significantly and by the end of a week have a lot less mess to clean up and a lot more time to play! Try it! Betty Mills

Gotta love the alliterated task names, they sound like something the software company I work for would have come up with.
