Free Cell Phone AND Minutes - For Real

In this world where nothing is free, I found something that is. Absolutely free. Safe Link Wireless is a government supported program that provides a free cell phone and airtime every month for income-eligible customers. Yeah! They currently offer a free cell phone to eligible participants. Which means if you have low income, no income, receive food stamps or cash assistance from the government, you can get a phone. Granted, it's not a fancy iPhone but it's free. I know people that actually did this and have the phone and use it just like a regular phone. You can even add minutes to it over an above the free minutes you get each month. How many minutes you get depends on what state you live in. We live in PA and get 68 minutes per month. SafeLink Wireless Service does not cost anything – there are no contracts, no recurring fees and no monthly charges and if you don't use all of your minutes, they will roll-over. You also have caller ID, call waiting and voicemail included with your service. Here's how you may qualify: 1. You already participate in other State or Federal assistance program such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid.
OR
2. Your total household income is at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal Government.
AND
3. No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.
4. You have a valid United States Postal Address. If you meet the guidelines, you will also be required to provide proof of your participation in an assistance program, or proof of your income level. I'm not sure why they offer this service. I h ad heard that it was because if someone is homeless and looking for work, they would have no phone number to receive a call from a potential employer.
