Being a Nurse Makes Me Feel Proud By Deb Bloom of Gimme One of Each I have been a Registered Nurse for 17 years. I can hardly believe it's been that long. I worked in a Hospital for 3 years and for the last 14 years have been with the same Hospital's Home Health Department. I sometimes wonder where the nursing world will take me but I'll NEVER regret becoming a nurse. It's a great job but can be stressful, mind boggling, annoying and even scary at times, but overall it's a rewarding occupation. No, I can't even call it an occupation. RN is what I am, not what I do. I received a phone call today from a car dealer about buying a new car. My husband told her to call me to get my social security number and all that stuff to do a credit check and whatever else they do when buying a new vehicle. She asked me a few questions and then asked me what my position was and I told her Registered Nurse and the next thing she said was "I want to thank you for that. I know you don't get the praise you deserve." It caught me off guard. I've had a lot of praise over the years from patients thanking me for the care I've provided or a daughter that hugs me when she sees me at Walmart because I was so good to her Mom or anther patient sending cards to my office and telling my supervisor that she could never have given herself her insulin injections if it hadn't been for me, but I have never had anyone thank me for being a nurse. It was great and I had to share it. So to all those nurses out there that don't hear it enough, Thank You. Thank you for being a nurse!
